Rating Scale

In case anyone is wondering about my rating scale, here it is! I rate on a scale from 1-5 stars, including 3.5 and 4.5 stars.

5 Stars: This is a spine that shines extremely well! It took my breath away and left me speechless! The writing, the characters, the plot, and the threads throughout the story all wove together to create a fully satisfying read.

4 Stars: This is a spine that shines quite well. This book was very good, but did not quite have what I call the “5-star oomph.” It may have minor issues here and there, but it was entertaining, and I still enjoyed it very much.

3 Stars: This book is a spine that shines only partially. I was disappointed with this book. This book had the potential to be so much better. It did not reach 4-star level due to fairly significant pacing problems, writing issues, or plot holes. I likely had difficulty connecting with the characters.

2 Stars: This spine hardly shines at all. I couldn’t connect with the characters at all. The writing was filled with grammatical and mechanical errors that severely hindered reading comprehension. The plot was executed extremely poorly and was not well-planned. This book needed substantial editing before publication.

1 Star: This spine does not shine at all. Why was it even published? (I hope I never have to give this rating to a book.)
